Veedersburg, March 25 – John Nance, 23 of Waynetown RR 2, his wife Alice Louise, 21, and her two brothers, Gerald Dean Douglass, 6, and Richard Clarence Douglass, 3, were killed in a tragic accident here at 4:55 o’clock Sunday afternoon when their car was struck by a freight train headed east on the Nickel Plate. The crash occurred at the Third Street crossing here in Veedersburg. Two other occupations of the death car, Doris Mae Douglass, 14 and Gene Nance, 14 were injured, the former seriously.  The driver, John Nance, was killed instantly, while his wife died enroute to the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville. The two Douglass boys, whose parents, Everett and Elva, reside in Veedersburg died shortly after arrival at the hospital. Gene Nance, who condition was believed to be favorable last night is a brother of John Nance. Engineer of the train, Freight No 41 is L Burns, Charleston Ill and the conductor is HL Kinderman, 204 1.2 W Washington Street, Frankfort. The accident was investigated by State Policeman Clarence Short and Coroner Carl Fishero. Bodies of the four accident victims are at the Fishero Funeral Home here. - kbz

The Veedersburg train-auto-crash of a week ago took its fifth victim in the death at 9:14 p.m. Saturday in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Danville of Doris Mae Douglas, 14, Veedersburg from injuries received in the crash. Doris Mae suffered a fractured skull and internal injuries in the accident that resulted in her death Saturday evening. The injured girl never regained consciousness following the crash.  John Nance, driver of the car was killed instantly in the crash with a Nickle-Plate Railroad fast freight train, his bride of a few weeks, Louise Douglas Nance, 21, died enroute to the office of Dr. CB McCord, Veedersburg; two small children, brothers of Mrs. Nance <Gerald Dean Douglas, 6 and Clarence Douglas, 3, died as they were being placed in an ambulance to be brought to a hospital in Danville.  A sixth occupant of the car, Eugene Nance, 14, brother of John is a patient in St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of a possible skull fracture and numerous cuts and bruises received in the accident. The body was removed to the Fishero Funeral Home, Veedersburg for completion of funeral arrangements.
